Authentic VFM Hyderabadi Biryani Fair at Hyderabad ExpressPosted in : Restaurant Review on by : Disha Khurana
With everyone experimenting with their taste buds & trying out new modern cuisines, our own traditional delicacies have been taking a seat back. The authenticity of traditional delicacies has been getting diluted in order to suit the taste buds of everyone. But very few people still believe & provide with the age old delicacies that are still very authentic & intact with their traditional taste.
India has far more types of Biryani than what people generally know of, however the one famous version known to all is the Hyderabadi Biryani. While you can easily get the authentic Hyderabadi Biryani in high end restaurants, there is no authenticity maintained in regular VFM ones. Not so long ago I happened to come across a delivery food joint called Hyderabad Express that promises traditional Hyderabadi Biryani which is priced very reasonably too. If you ask how it is supposed to be, well for starters it is quite a dry version with chunks of meat or vegetables & has a lot of flavour that comes through whole spices.
I tried the Chicken Dum Biryani, Mutton Dum Biryani, Chicken Tawa Biryani & the Veg Dum Biryani. Firstly I must say, their portion sizes are HUGE, they have portion size options to choose from & a full portion is enough for 2-3 people. They do party & bulk orders too & delivery all across Mumbai for a minimum bill of Rs. 1000/- & above. The biryani’s come in neat silver colour eco-friendly sealed pack plastic pouches, along with some raita, onion salad & mirch ka salan. Do yourself a favour & order extra mirch ka salan because it is that good. In case you do not enjoy the dry version of biryani’s & like more masala, you can request them for extra masala too at no extra cost.
To begin with each of the biryani’s had a burst of flavour, both the Chicken Dum Biryani as well as Mutton Dum Biryani were delicious. The meat was moist & tender while the rice was not too oily either, just how I like my biryani. I did request them for extra masala as I personally prefer it that way however the raita that comes along with it is too runny & sweet. Luckily my mom had made some onion raita & that went amazingly well with the biryani, I would suggest you to make your own Raita as well. The Mirch Ka Salan that comes along with the biryanis is SO GOOD that you can lick it off at one go, thus always order for extra salan.
The Chicken Tawa Biryani had a nice tangy & sweet tinge to it & had quite a lot of masala than the Dum Biryani’s. Even though it was nicely made, I did feel the need to add the mirch ka salan as it was a tad bit sweet for my taste but when combined with the salan, it tasted finger licking good. The Veg Dum Biryani was surprisingly great too, as very few people do it right. It had a great flavour but I wish they increased the amount of vegetables in it.
I even tried their Double ka Meetha in desserts & oh my it was delicious, I could practically have that every single day. Though the traditional version is white in colour, the guys at Hyderabad Express make their own version. Take Moti Choor Ladoo & Mohanthal & combine the two & that is exactly how this Double Ka Meetha tasted. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Over all Hyderabad Express is a great option for special occasions & parties or simply to enjoy some good comfort food with loved ones. It makes for a good option for office goers too but that is only if you have some plates & bowls to open the biryani into as the sealed pack pouches are not comfortable to eat in.
