Restaurant Review : Pi Pizzeria
When it comes to Pizza, there is a rat race! A race for more toppings, more cheese, more sauce but all that really clouds what really makes a delicious Pizza. Although those are important elements of a pizza, but the bread & the dough is the heart & soul of a well-made pizza. Very few restaurants in Mumbai pay utmost importance to their bread. One such restaurant that I came across recently is Pi Pizzeria. Most of their key products are imported from Europe which makes the end result that GOOD & authentic. I am not kidding but after my Europe trip last year, I had one of the best gourmet pizza experience at Pi Pizzeria.
I was invited here for a bloggers table recently & got to try quite a variety of food from their menu. We started off with Baked Mushrooms with Pesto & Mozzarella, Dough Balls with Garlic Butter & Garlic Bread with Mozzarella. The Baked Mushrooms which were loaded with pesto & cheese on a bed of melted butter were my favourite of the three. The garlic bread was decent & though I received a lot of praise about the dough balls, I personally found it very okay.
We also tried the Chicken Panko Strips & Gamberi All’aglio (Pan seared Prawns in olive oil, garlic, onions & spring onions). I really the crispy & crunchy Chicken Panko strips that went well with the garlic mayo specially their house dip. The Prawns were huge in size & the flavour was good but too salty for my palate.
We moved on to the main course & tried Pi Pizzeria’s Wild Mushroom & Truffle Oil Risotto, Penne Pomodoro & Penne Pollo Funghi Bake. I preferred the Penne Pollo Funghi Bake which had flavours the most of the three pasta dishes. It had a lovely flavour from the pesto, mushrooms, garlic & cheese. The Penne Pomodoro was too sour for me & I wouldn’t recommend it. The Wild Mushroom & Truffle Oil Risotto was well made & tasted good, but the truffle element was totally missing. Nor could I taste or smell any truffle in the dish.
So far the meal was rather okay but now was the time to test the main deal – the much heard of Pizzas of Pi Pizzeria. Thankfully this was a tasting table & thus we all tried only a tiny bit of everything but we all devoured the pizza to the last bit. I tried the Quattro, Pollo Arrosto, Cipriota & Ciappino. Quattro is a speciality of Pi Pizzeria; its a 4 cheese pizza which has a blend of mozzarella, fontal, parmesan & feta. The Cipriota had toppings of olive, sundried tomatoes, onions, cherry tomatoes & feta. Both the Pizzas were quite good & had a good ratio of bread to sauce, toppings & cheese.
My personal favourites of what I tried was the Ciappino & the Pollo Arrosto. The Ciappino had a simple description of Garlic, Basil & Onions but it was unlike it any other pizza I have ever tried. The garlic butter below the layer of cheese is what makes it so special. Although simple yet packed with BOMBs of flavour. The Pollo Arrosto had Chicken, roasted peppers, pesto & onions & I totally relished every bit of it. I have also ordered Pollo Arrosto at home recently but it tastes way better when it is just out of the oven. Pi Pizzeria also serves a Garlic Infused Oil & Chilli Infused Oil at the table along with their food & that totally uplifts the flavour profile of some dishes.
I skipped their signature Pizza called Stagioni as it has ham & pepperoni. Although they served us 1/2 with ham & pepperoni & the other half 1/2 with chicken, olives & pepperoni; I wasn’t comfortable trying it. Pi Pizzeria offers you the option to customize your Pizza as per personal preferences.
We ended the meal with a Molten Lava Cake, Tiramisu & Baked New York Cheesecake. This was to be one of the best Tiramisu’s I have had a regular restaurant in a long time. That was followed by the Baked New York Cheesecake & the Molten Lava Cake. I personally love anything chocolate, but I found this one to be a little eggy. But overall what a meal; Pi Pizzeria totally does justice to their imported ingredients by giving an authentic gourmet experience.
